In recent years, many changes have taken place at the Historic Newborn schoolhouse. Scroll down to view the progress of the renovations that have been tackled by a team of dedicated volunteers with donations from "Friends of the Schoolhouse", as well as the support of the Town of Newborn . We are so thankful to the town for recognizing the importance of preserving our history and committing SPLOST funds to this project.
Fall of 2015 - Museum renovations
Walls painted, paneling refinished (Ceiling painted as part of auditorium work and new lighting added summer of 2017)
Fall of 2016 - Kitchen renovations
New lights, new fans, new stove, new fridge, new sink, new cabinets, new countertops, refinished floors, new island, fresh paint on walls and ceiling, all paneling refinished.
Winter / Spring of 2017 - Auditorium & dining room renovation
Ceiling scraped and painted, pews refinished, steps to stage added, new lighting, new fans, walls painted
Winter of 2020 - Improvements for Accessibility
We are excited to announce a new ramp leading to dedicated handicap parking, doors that swing the correct way, safer transitions between the auditorium and the "back of the house", followed by removal of current ramp and lovely but low maintenance landscaping. Stay tuned!
