In recent years, many changes have taken place at the Historic Newborn schoolhouse. Scroll down to view the progress of the renovations that have been tackled by a team of dedicated volunteers with donations from "Friends of the Schoolhouse", as well as the support of the Town of Newborn . We are so thankful to the town for recognizing the importance of preserving our history and committing SPLOST funds to this project.
Fall of 2015 - Museum renovations
Walls painted, paneling refinished (Ceiling painted as part of auditorium work and new lighting added summer of 2017)
Fall of 2016 - Kitchen renovations
New lights, new fans, new stove, new fridge, new sink, new cabinets, new countertops, refinished floors, new island, fresh paint on walls and ceiling, all paneling refinished.
Winter / Spring of 2017 - Auditorium & dining room renovation
Ceiling scraped and painted, pews refinished, steps to stage added, new lighting, new fans, walls painted
Summer 2022 - Improvements for Accessibility
We are excited to announce a new ramp leading to dedicated handicap parking has been completed! Coming soon: doors that swing the correct way, safer transitions between the auditorium and the "back of the house", and lovely but low maintenance landscaping. Stay tuned!
